It's all go in Cannes. And the news that's leaked so far is... odd. Frankly.
We hear on the grapevine – well, the Hollywood Reporter website to be exact – that Jan De Bont has signed on to direct a Point Break sequel... 17 years after the original and picking up the story in Asia some 20 years since Patrick Swayze disappeared in the surf.
The good news is it's going to be written by W. Peter Iliff. The bad news?
Jan De Bont's last sequel was, er, Speed 2. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Another reason to be afraid is the news that the probably insane Werner Herzog has teamed up with the probably insane David Lynch to make a film.
About a man who was probably insane. Called My Son, My Son, it's a based-on-a-true story tale about a San Diego man who acts out a Sophocles play in his mind and kills his mother with a sword.
We don't know how the pairing will work at this stage – we're assuming it's Herzog's script and Lynch in the director's chair – but the paper reports the film will flash between the murder scene and the man's story. Hmm.
You stay classy indeed, San Diego. And, in the meantime, Herzog is going to occupy himself with a completely pointless remake of Bad Lieutenant starring Nicolas Cage.
Suddenly we actually quite fancy seeing some rom coms...
