We were stopped in our tracks by the news that Rihanna has thespian tendencies.

Then we found a Q-Tip, asked them to repeat the news and, well, we were very disappointed.

Somewhat inevitably, the Bahamian brolly-bearing beauty has decided that, while she's had some chart success and THAT smash hit, what she really wants to do is act. 'I don't know how good I'll be at it, but it's something that I want to try,' she explained to contactmusic.

A quick scoot over to the oracle – or IMDb as it's also known – shows that she's already started. Ri – as she's possibly known to her friends – is playing Carol in Mama Black Widow.

It's a not-terribly-cheery sounding 1930s tale of a black family's migration from the Deep South to black underworld of Chicago, and Rihanna is co-starring alongside Kerry Washington, Anthony Anderson and other musicians turned actor, such as Mos Def and Macy Gray.

Oh, and on the subject of babes, you might also like to know that Jessica Simpson is single again, chaps. Possibly.

The Dallas Morning News reports that she and Tony Romo have called it quits.
