Twenty one races are held across the three days of racing on the Knavesmire and the results typically throw up clues to the Classic and Group races later in the season.

The Dante Stakes, a race for three-year-old colts, is one of the leading prep races for the Derby with Motivator and Authorized two of the most recent winners to follow up in the Epsom contest. In total, nine horses have achieve the Dante-Derby double.

Six horses have won the Musidora Stakes, the equivalent of the Dante Stakes but for three-year-old fillies, before going on to win the Epsom Oaks, the most recent being Sariska who did the double in 2009.
