Beckham - The Movie Entertainment News - 21/09/06 - Neil Davey MegaStar says: ‘How about Angelina Jolie as Rebecca Loos?’ He’s a poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks. But, through his talent and determination, he rose above his humble origins. He is David Beckham. And this is his story. Lock up your cinema passes and boycott the multiplex. The David Beckham story is, apparently, on its way. And the man who’s bringing it to you is… Tom Cruise. And, with crushing inevitability, Katie Holmes is lined up to play Posh. According to the Daily Star, Cruise pitched the idea of Beckham’s story to Paramount executives just before their big falling out. They apparently loved the idea, optioned the story and it looks like a goer. “Tom has a brilliant grasp of what the public want to see,” said an insider, neatly forgetting War of the Worlds, Collateral, The Last Samurai and assorted other recent ventures. On the plus side, Cruise will produce or possibly direct but will NOT play the floppy-haired footballer. “Tom wouldn’t work as David,” stated the insider, with no little understatement. “The physical difference is too marked.” However that “physical difference” thing doesn’t appear to have stopped growly cockney shortarse Jason Statham, and skinny ginger bloke Paul Bettany, being lined-up to play the sarong-wearing model shagger.
