Arnie: He'll be back

Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to reprise his role as the Terminator for the fourth instalment of the franchise, Terminator: Salvation.

Arnie, currently on sabbatical from the movies as Governor of California is rumoured to be in discussions with producers to lend his image and voice to a digital version of the murderous Metal Mickey (or Cyberdyne Systems Model 101, T-800 series, if you prefer.)

Confused yet? Well the fanboys got it instantly and are currently dribbling at the plan, let us explain…

About three months ago a little known Austrian actor called Roland Kickinger was hired by Salvation director McG to play a Terminator.

If you Google Kickinger you will recognize that this beefcake is a ringer for Arnie, the original Austrian oak.

Special FX whizzes want to go a step further by using Kickinger’s impressive frame and digitally mapping Arnie’s mug over Kickinger’s.

The boffins will no doubt go a step further by knocking a few worry lines of Arnie’s boat, but the end game will no doubt be a photo realistic Arnie back on the screen and if he lends his voice to the role – squint and you could be watching a young Arnie tear it up again.

Fuel to the fire was recently added when Arnie was snapped gassing with T4 star Christian Bale in California.

Let’s hope he wasn’t just dishing out some anger management advice. If this works, it could herald a new era of stars of yore returning to the silver screen.

Marilyn Monroe in Basic Instinct 3 may still be a long way off; Perhaps Heath Ledger could be back as the Joker after all.
