If there's one thing scarier than zombies on screen, that's zombies coming out of the screen.
Roll on the planned re-release of Dawn of the Dead then. According to the Hollywood Reporter, New Amsterdam Entertainment will 'use its proprietary ‘dimensionalization’ process' to turn Romero's undead classic into the 'stereoscopic' format.
Nope, us neither, but it basically boils down to Dawn of the Dead in 3D sometime around the end of the year.
It's the same process that they used to turn Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas into a pretty decent multi-dimensional experience.
Should we have any geeks reading, here's the 'fun' techy stuff. The 'dimensionalization process' is called In-Three and it's a piece of software that can create a second camera image from a 2-D image.
Each frame is then 'dimensionalized' – a word we're pretty sure they made up – which means objects can be moved forward or backward to achieve the desired 3D effect. The downside is that it costs $50K per minute. Ouch.
But the market for 3D zombies should be big enough to make this a financial winner.
We give it around five minutes before they use the process on porn...
