It’s been to general relief that the latest Indiana Jones film is not as bad as bloggers and online chatterboxes where predicting.
Yes, there’s probably too much CGI and not enough meaningful, fun and significant dialogue but early reports from the Cannes screening suggest the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a great popcorn family action film.
So where next? Director Steven Spielberg has already suggested he would make a fifth in the series but ‘only if you want more’. And by ‘you’ he means you and me as punters going through the box office to ensure Indy’s latest exploit is a blockbuster success.
And the lineage of the film looks secure as Harrison Ford’s natural successor to Doctor Jones has emerged with the Transformers star Shia LaBeouf as Indiana’s son Spielberg said: ‘That’s why we made this Indiana Jones.
We’ll certainly have our ear to the ground to hear what happens. ‘That’ll decide where we go from here’ Spielberg added.
The BBC film critic said: ‘the set-piece stunts are second to none,’ while Empire magazine said the Crystal Skull was ‘a slick, fun film.’
However there has been criticism the sci-fi ending to the film being more Close Encounters of the Third Kind than Raiders of the Lost Ark. But ho-hum.
