Tobey Maguire seems to be building a decent career in turning comic-book stars into real-life action heroes after he committed himself to star in Afterburn.

The Spider-Man actor has yet to confirm if he will take Spidey for a fourth spin on his web but Paul Ens and Scott Chitwood’s Afterburn comic book will see Maguire in a post-apocalyptic world.

The story centres on Earth after a solar flare has destroyed half the planet, leaving it scorched and most remaining living things mutilated by radiation.

Maguire heads a group of mercenaries as they barter, exchange and steal the world’s toppermost goodies like the Mona Lisa ands the Crown Jewels.

Chased and harassed by mutilated creatures, it sounds a hoot.
