Will there be a Batman sequel?
By which, of course, we mean another Christopher Nolan-directed sequel to Batman Begins.
And not the other ones with Keaton and Clooney etc. Then we'd be talking Batman VII or something.
With The Dark Knight opening later this month, early word is that the film ends with a hint of another one, however Chris Nolan has announced that he's not planning another sequel.
Instead he's rumoured to be making a big screen version of The Prisoner but that's not important right now.
Talking at a recent press conference, Nolan explained the 'open' ending.
'I knew what I wanted to do with the end of the film before we wrote the story,' he revealed. 'I wanted the film to feel very complete, which isn’t the same as having a feeling of finality in the ending.'
Er... what?
'There was a particular emotion from the ending, and a particular thing we were after in terms of expressing something about Batman, and bringing the entire story back to him.'
So that's clear then?
'I don’t know what I’d do next, or what would happen next,' he said about the likelihood of a sequel.
If there is a sequel, Christian Bale would be up for it. On one condition: Nolan as director.
'I can’t imagine doing this without Chris. I don’t even want to consider that because he’s created this. This is his.'
Which must come as a bit of a shock to Bob Kane.
