Since Buffy finished and Firefly disappeared – via the last cinematic hurrah of Serenity – what has Joss Whedon been up to?
The answer is 'pretty much everything.'
Billing himself as 'the world's laziest workaholic' in an interview with MTV, Whedon has revealed the current state of his diary to the world. And it looks like he's pencilled in Christmas for a nap.
Before that though, he's...
1) Writing a script call Goners – a 'very personal thing about human connection and questioning whether there is such a thing at all' as Whedon describes it. It's also 'a little darker than I’m used to,' and is about a girl who develops new, unexpected powers. 'Not something I’ve written about before,' he explained, with his tongue firmly in his cheek.
2) Developing a film called Cabin in the Woods – which is a horror about... you'll never guess... a cabin in the woods. 'It’s genius, it’s funny,' revealed co-writer Drew Goddard, although he would say that, wouldn't he? 'It’ll rip your heart out and be heartfelt at the same time,' he continued.
3) Finishing Dollhouse, his new TV series for Fox. Starring – oh joy – Eliza Dushku, it's about a secret organisation that uses DNA-altered humans (known as Dolls) who are implanted with false memories and skills for various missions and tasks. When the mission is over, they get their minds wiped. But one of them, Dushku's character Echo is starting to realise what's going on. It's due to start in January.
4) More Buffy comics
5) Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Yep, it's another Whedon musical venture, this time a web-only tale of the Evil League of Evil, the supervillain (Neil Patrick Harris) attempting to join, his superhero nemesis (Nathan Fillion) and the girl he likes from the laundromat (Felicia Day). It airs in three ten minute episodes, showing July 15, 17 and 19, and the trailer's already up at www.drhorrible.com
6) Serving Girl – a short film with Firefly and Sarah Connor Chronicles star Summer Glau. Although that might have to wait. 'She’s even busier than I am,' explained Whedon. 'She’s busy terminating everybody.'
And we thought we were busy...
