We have to admit were getting excited at the thought of Guy Ritchie's reworking of the classic Sherlock Holmes – mainly because Robert Downey Jnr will be taking the lead of the super sleuth.
Surely, this means it can’t all be geezers and guns when you have an actor of Downey Jnr’s pedifgree. But to banish the thought once and for all, Jude Law has been confirmed as Holmes sidekick, Dr Watson.
Other stars confirmed include Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler, Mark Strong as villain Blackwood, and Kelly Reilly as Watson's love interest Mary.
Mr Madonna said at a press conference: ‘I'd like to bring something new to this project - I have a few tricks up my sleeve. It won't be a traditional Guy Ritchie thing, it will be a new Guy Ritchie thing.’
Don’t you hate people when they talk about themselves in the third person – you’d never catch the Frank Cliveden doing that, oh no.
Meanwhile Downey’s getting up for the part: ‘I think me and Guy are well-suited to working together. ‘The more I look into the books, the more fantastic it becomes. Holmes is such a weirdo,’ he said.
The flick is not due out until October 2009, and it will go head-to-head with a Sacha Baron Cohen Sherlock Holmes comedy.
We'll probably buy tickets for both.
