Stick-thin country music lover Nicole Kidman is set to play Soul legend Dusty Springfield in a forthcoming biopic.
Kidman won a best actress Oscar for her portrayal of Virginia Wolf in The Hours and she will team up again with scribe Michael Cunningham for the Dusty flick.
Dusty’s turbulent life should make great screen fodder, Cunningham hinted that the warts and all tale will include Dusty’s battle with drink and drugs and her well documented struggle to come to terms with her sexuality.
It’s unclear if Nicole with try to emulate Dusty’s famous vocal, it will be no mean feat if she can pull that one of. She greased the vocal chords before most famously in Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge but perhaps her biggest battle will be mastering a northern accent and getting down to some onscreen lady love.
Meanwhile her diminutive Scientologist ex-hubby Tom Cruise has drafted in 24 writers Joel Surnow and Michael loceff to pen him a modern espionage flick.
Tom has had a bash at that genre already with the instantly forgettable Mission Impossible series.
It’s unclear if Tom will star in the flick or if he is just splashing the cash as head of studio United Artists.
Slipping further down the food chain Jonah Hill of Judd Apatow Productions inc fame is set for a big role in Transformers 2.
The lardy funnyman is rumoured to play Shia LeBeouf’s chromasome-negative ‘roomy’ in the new robot flick.
Plot details are sketchy but it’s likely to be set on a campus, so expect a scene where a jock is bullying a geek before being stamped on by a giant walking lorry – or something.
We don’t really care as long as Megan Fox is in it.
