Dyer's Sweeney snub

Dyer: Mug punter?
Danny Dyer

Professional geezer Danny Dyer fears he may miss out in a starring role alongside Ray Winstone in a movie version of classic Brit cop show The Sweeney – cos he just ain’t famous enough…

British director Nick Love of The Football Factory and The Business, err..fame, is ploughing ahead with a remake of the cult classic.

Bigwig producers are looking to attach a Hollywood name to star as DS Carter alongside A-lister Winstone.

Sadly for Dyer, his mug might shift a few hundred thousand DVDs in the provinces to disenfranchised Stone Island clad males, but where worldwide distribution is concerned, a beach ball with a smiley face may just have more clout.

Love has moved on from direct-to-DVD tosh concerning criminals, football hooligans and diamond geezers (usually starring Dyer) and his old pal may miss out on the chance to 'ave it large Stateside.

‘This is the big one for me. I've made four films with Nick already. He is campaigning for me but they want to sell it worldwide,’ Dyer told The Sun.

‘There's no better combination of me and Ray for this country but they don't know who I am in America, so I sort of understand where they're coming from.

‘I'll definitely be a part of it but I've heard they are mentioning people like Paul Bettany and Clive Owen, who have gone over to the States and cracked on.'

A remake of The Sweeney starring Ray Winstone and Clive Owen, sounds brilliant! On yer bike Dyer you mug punter.
