The good news... The Muppets are coming back to the big screen.
And it's a couple of Judd Apatow's team that have been given the responsibility.
Nick Stoller and Jason Segel are the directing / acting / writing team behind the soon-to-be-released Apatow-production, Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
The stand out scene in that is a Dracula musical, performed by Segel but supported by Jim Henson puppet creations. As a result of that, Segel was given the chance to pitch to Disney executives - so now he and Stoller will be writing the new Muppet movie.
Variety is keeping quiet so far on the plot details etc., but as soon as we see more info, we'll let you know.
Now the bad news... Fame is being remade.
Yes, yes, we know. Given the number of films that have followed the same basic plot recently - Step Up, Step Up 2: The Streets, Stomp The Yard, etc – it's hard to see why they're bothering.
But, according to industry bible variety, the New York School For The Performing Arts will again be the setting for assorted clichéd subplots. In legwarmers.
Kevin Tanchereon is slated to direct. What do you mean who? Kevin Tanchereon. You know. The bloke who choreographed The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search For The Next Doll.
Oh dear. Why do we get the feeling the new Fame will resemble an extended audition for a lapdancing club?
Here's an idea Hollywood. Let Stoller and Segel do the Muppet Fame. Two birds, one stone, and the only way you're going to make a Fame remake vaguely palatable.
