Chest the ticket for a spy thriller romp

Tom Cruise has decided not to sign up to spy thriller Edwin A. Salt, so who better to step into his size 6 stack-heels than, er, Angelina Jolie?

We’ve seen her do an impression or two but swapping genders?

The pneumatically-charmed new mum of twins has been named by Empire Online as the replacement for Cruise and thankfully there’s time to rewrite the script to make he, a her.

As they point out, move the A slightly to the left and Edwin becomes Edwina Salt and the job’s a good 'un.

The upcoming thriller by Philip Noyce is about a CIA agent who's accused of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run to clear his/her name.

Not the most original of scripts, we think you will agree. But Noyce has pedigree in this genre with the Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger under his belt. And he handled beautifully the simple story of love, war and spooks in the Quiet American starring Michael Caine.

However, it is rare it for a female to take the lead from a male and expect her name to launch the picture.
