There's bad news for music fans this morning. Not only is Dustin the puppet turkey out of Eurovision, but news reaches us that the Chili Peppers have split.
But it's only for 12 months or so. Which is nice.
Talking to Rolling Stone, frontman Anthony Kiedis explained that the band needed some time apart .
Kiedis reckons it's nine years since they had some quality individual time. 'We kind of started in 1999 with the writing and the recording of Californication and we didn't really stop until the tour ended last year,' he explained.
'We were all emotionally and mentally zapped at the end of that run. 'Cooler heads prevailed and the discussion at the end of our last tour was, 'Let's not do anything Red Hot Chili Peppers-related for a minimum of one year, and just live and breathe and eat and learn new things.''
Kiedis is keeping himself busy during the hiatus with surfing lessons, apparenlty, and a new son, while the others are working on musical projects of a typically varied nature.
The best news is that Kiedis is starting to think that he'd like to get them all together soon. ''I'm starting to get just a little bit of a tingle that it would be nice to start thinking about songs and pieces of music,' he added.
Here's hoping they've used the break to spend some time in California because, you know, they really don't mention it enough in their songs.
