Perma-rockers U2 have explained why an expectant world must wait for their latest opus. Or next album as we might learn to call it.
Lead guitarist The Edge has claimed the forthcoming album will allow them to ‘take it to the next level’.
And we presume he means artisitc level, rather than any money-making hype-driven level.
The Irish band’s twelfth album, to be titled No Line On The Horizon, was meant to be released later this year but has been set back to early 2009.
Speaking to music bible NME, guitarist The Hedge said: ‘We're still writing and we're trying to take it to the next level. It's taking a while, but I'm told there's no short cut to greatness!’
Although we’re not sure if the ‘greatness’ bit was a joke, the wag went on to praise Nationwide Mercury Prize winners Elbow.
He said: ‘They're a really good band, good for them. More power to your Elbow!’
Hilarious. No, really.
