Rap superstars Wu-Tang Clan are about to make music history by being the first musicians to sample a Beatles song.
The Clan were originally meant to cover the legendary While My Guitar Gently Weeps, but the hip-hop moguls somehow managed to persuade the Harrison Estate to give them permission to sample the track instead.
The song will appear on their new album 8 Diagrams titled Gently Weeps, featuring George Harrison’s son Dhani Harrison, Erykah Badu and guitar work from red Hot Chili Peppers’ John Frusciante.
The album is now pushed back for a December release instead of November 13 due to the new developments.
Posted on the band’s website was a note that read: ‘Special thanks to Danny (sic) Harrison and Erykah Badu for helping bring this song to life! Also thanks to the Harrison estate and the Beatles for making this possible!’
Speaking about Dhani, frontman RZA previously said in an interview with Rolling Stones: ’He's the biggest Wu-Tang fan in the world. I told him I would be honoured if he played his father's song.’
Well, he got his wish!
