Bailey buzzes off

Won’t you come home, Bill Bailey?
Bill Bailey

Bill Bailey is leaving Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

That’s sad news for music lovers… and good news for Donny Tourette, anyone else who’s tried to match verbal wits with Bailey over the years and anyone that’s appeared in that line-up round.

Producers are looking for a replacement and, while they do so, are roping in a number of interesting replacements – Johnny Vegas, Bob Mortimer – a few utterly predictable ones – Frank Skinner, Jack Dee – and some highly unexpected ones such as Dermot O’Leary and Mark Ronson.

Er, they do know it’s meant to be a comedy quiz right?

So who will replace Bailey permanently? Can we make a suggestion? Young Aussie musical comic Tim Minchin. Seriously, get thee to You Tube…

However, if you thought Dermot O’Leary was a weird choice, you clearly don’t work for the Vodafone Live Music Awards.

We’re slightly dubious about the decision to make Primal Scream ‘best live act’ and give them ‘outstanding contribution to live music’ as it’s several years since they did anything of note.

However, they have made at least one classic album so we’ll suck those decisions up.

However, Vodafone, we need to talk about the ‘best reunion’ award.

In a year when live favourites James got back together and The Verve reformed for some storming festival appearances, Led Zeppelin – perhaps the most influential band of the last 40 years – also reunited.

The winner then was obvious… Yep. It was The Spice Girls.

Vodafone and music. They go together like children and traffic.
