Beef with Noel. An Oasis of calm

Fight! Well, we can hope. Because Jay Z – or Big Jay Z as we tend to think of him – has responded to Noel Gallagher's criticism.

Or little Noel, as we like to think of him in this instance. Actually, bloody and weeping Noel is how we like to think of him in this instance...

A few weeks ago, Noel declared that hip-hop and Glastonbury were wrong. 'Jay-Z? No chance' he declared. Jay Z has hit back.

Best of all, he's done it in tolerant tones rather than the outspoken manner of, say, a fading rocker who hasn't had a decent hit for 10 years.

Like the man says 'what's the big deal about doing a show?'

'We don't play guitars, Noel, but hip-hop has put in its work like any other form of music,' Jay told the Sun. 'This headline show is just a natural progression. Rap music is still evolving.

'From Afrika Bambaataa DJ-ing in the Bronx and Run DMC going platinum, to Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince winning the first rap Grammy, I'm just next in the line.

As for Glastonbury, Jay declard: 'I've never ever had a show that's caused this much of a stir so I'm really looking forward to it.'

'I guess it's heritage and people hold that dear to their heart and see it one way but that's how the world is.'

For the record, Jay Z is appearing on a massive stage in Somerset next month. Noel will be... we don't know. Shopping? Doing the garden?
