Plant dump threat

Led Zep: Life without Plant?

The Led Zeppelin tour will go ahead - with or without lead singer Robert Plant.

That’s the extraordinary threat reported in the papers today.

Since the legendary rock gods reformed for a one-off show last December, rumours have been flying that the remaining three - Plant, lead guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones - plus second generation drummer Jason ‘Son of John’ Bonham,  would embark on a world tour.

With Plant currently on a world tour with Alison Krauss following the success of their collaboration, the others have been rehearsing with a number of stand-in singers.

Now, according to the Sun, they’ve found an unnamed American vocalist who is reportedly so impressive that they all think they could tour anyway.

‘Jimmy, Jason and John are determined a tour will go ahead next year,’ explained a source.

‘They’ve been rehearsing frequently in London and the band is really gelling.

‘Obviously they want the original frontman to join them on the road but he still won’t commit. They will be finalising plans for shows over the next couple of months and will tell Robert that if he doesn’t want to be involved they will go ahead without him.’

So ongoing reluctance? Or the fact that he’s on a US tour with Alison Krauss until early October?

And if they do tour, will they be allowed to play as Led Zeppelin? Because we can imagine how well Led Balloon will go down…
