Britney’s toxic meltdown and rumoured custody battle are being put on the backburner as the singer prepares to return to the pop world.

Personally, we think it’s a tad too soon for the wayward wannabe actress to be staging a comeback, seeing how the press have some lovely snaps of her running out of petrol in LA and asking the cops to push her car to the nearest petrol station as she follows wearing a smock top as a dress which let her buttocks neatly hang out.

It’s not a pretty sight.

But Spears hasn’t long to tone-up, because if the reports are to be believed, her first single in three years could be released this weekend.

Gimmie More, produced by Danjahandz, is being billed as an up-tempo dance track: ‘It's about feeling good, celebrating womanhood,’ Danja told MTV News earlier this year.

‘And if you don't dance to it, I really don't know what you're listening to. It's a new Britney.’

Spears will reportedly host the grand opening of Las Vegas nightclub LAX on Friday, which is an odd choice, seeing as how Christina Aguilera is an investor in the club, along with DJ AM who be on the decks that night.

Perhaps she’s preparing for her rumoured big appearance at the MTV Music Video Awards on September 9, which magician Criss Angel was only too happy to let slip.

‘It's amazing what people think,’ Angel told People mag. ‘We're not together. Her manager is my manager, and I'm helping with one of her shows. I'm helping with her appearance on MTV.’

But VMA Music Director Timbaland has poo-pooed the appearance: ‘I'm the maestro,’ he told Access Hollywood. ‘If I don't know nothing about it... could be, hope not. I don't know, I don't know nothing about it.’
