Whatever DJ / TV presenter / megarich TV baron Chris Evans has been up to in the last few years, he’s still got pots of cash after he splashed a world record £6m on a car.
But it’s not any old car – silly! It’s a Nero black Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder, of course. Ah, that explains it… sort of.
The ginger nut paid twice the estimate auction value for the car at RM Auctions’ Ferrari Leggenda E Passione event in Maranello, home to the famous prancing horse brand.
The car was once owned by craggy-faced Great Escape actor, James Coburn who sold the car in 1987. And the 7.04m euro it raised is the most ever stumped up for a car in auction.
According to reports, Evans was in jeans and a t-shirt, slugging on a bottle of beer when he made the winning bid. Evans cashed in his chips when he sold his TV company six years ago, landing more than £50m in the process.
An extended holiday and quick marriage to Billie Piper kept him sort of busy. The auction house reckons the price was achieved because of the connection with James Coburn.
So we can expect a James Dean sports car to smash that record soon. Somehow we don’t expect Evans to be bombing around the countryside in this one, though.
