Is it really a year since THAT Britney Spears MTV comeback performance?

Well, we say performance; it was more a gentle stroll around the stage while spilling out of little shorts.

Britney has a second chance to impress when she returns to the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday. After all, ‘the shambolic appearance severely damaged the Spears brand,’ confirmed a source. ‘This time she’s determined it will be different.’

‘MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs?’ she declared.

Britney will open the show and needs to deliver in spades this time. First of all, her reputation is truly at stake this time around.

And secondly? Christina Aguilera’s also performing. And she’s got even more impressive, er, lungs these days.

In between the girly rivalry, the watching crowds will be ‘entertained’ by ‘stand-up comic’ Russell Brand.
