Cage gets Straight role

Cage. He's the delinquents' friend.

The actor we can't work out if we like and the director we can't work out of we like. It's the perfect combination.

Both Nicolas Cage and John Carpenter have had their excellent moments, of course... but both have also had their turkeys. So we await prison thriller Scared Straight with, er, interest.

The story follows a troubled teen sent to prison on the 'Scared Straight' crime-prevention program, where prison is used – hopefully – as a short term deterrent from a life of crime. However, a riot breaks out, the prisoners take the teen hostage and Cage's lifer has to step in.

Hmm. All things considered, we think we're slightly more interested in Dorian Gray, which pitches Ben Barnes and Colin Firth together in this Oscar Wilde adaptation.

Relax. It's not more social satire and corsets. It's 'a visceral dark horror story' according to director Oliver Parker.

Barnes plays Gray, the young man whose portrait ages while he remains young. Firth will be playing Lord Henry Wotton, the aristocrat who launches Gray in to a world of hedonism.

And the film is already shooting.

Firth will next be seen, sort of, in Robert Zemeckis' motion-capture take on A Christmas Carol, which also features Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman.
