Barat: Fledgling thesp

Carl Barat of Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things fame has a fledgling movie career that is gaining momentum.

Barat will make his film debut in Telstar the forthcoming Joe Meek biopic where he play Gene Vincent alongside big-hitter Kevin Spacey who will play Meek’s financial adviser Major Banks (there’s a gag in there somewhere.)

Ex-Darkness rocker Justin Hawkins also features in Telstar in case you were thinking Spacey’s presence gives the flick a stamp of quality.

Barat has revealed that he has already inked his next role, but is remaining tight-lipped apart from the fact that he will be playing a ‘scientist.’

He said: ‘I have something coming up. It's a very different direction (to Telstar) - a part you really would not expect me to play which makes it very exciting. It's weird but cool.’

Looks like Carl could finally step out of the shadow of ex-bandmate and junkie numbty Pete Doherty.
