A few months ago Jodie Foster confirmed what many of us presumed (but actually didn’t care) that she was a lesbian.

Big deal - and all that - unless you work in the States were such things are career threatening. She described her love of 14 years as, 'my beautiful Cydney, who sticks with me through the rotten and the bliss' during an acceptance speech in an awards do in LA in December.

The couple have two adopted children together, nine-year old Charles and six-year old Kit.

So having gone through the possible backlash or bad publicity of 'coming out', it’s surprising to hear her relationship is reportedly on the rocks. The intensely private Foster – a childhood star – has rumoured to have ended the relationship with Cydney Bernard.

The National Enquirer reckons; 'Right now it's the best kept secret in Hollywood, and it's not just because Jodie is legend and an intensely private person, either. ‘She and Cydney have been together for so many years and have two children together, the potential fallout and legal wrangling from this split could be monumental.'

Legal wrangling? 'Divorce' settlements? Court cases? There is no way that could remain private for long.

The unkind among you might think Jodies’ coming out might have been a pre-emptive strike.
