Sam Taylor-Wood is going to direct a John Lennon biopic.

The much feted visual artist will helm Nowhere Boy, a film that will chart the singer songwriter’s early years and his transformation into a musical icon.

Slightly more encouraging than Taylor-Wood’s (possibly pretentious) involvement is news that the script comes from Matt Greenhalgh who also wrote Control, the excellent Ian Curtis film last year.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the script details Lennon’s early days as a lonely teenager escaping into music and art while his aunt and the mother who gave him up vie for his attention.

‘The women in John's early life truly shaped who he became,’ said Taylor-Wood said, ‘and the strengths and weaknesses of their relationships are central to this film.’

Casting for the major roles are said to be ‘under way,’ according to a spokesman for the film’s backers.

It certainly sounds more interesting than the other music-related rumour we’ve heard.

Apparently Brett ‘Rush Hour’ Ratner would like to make a film about… Guitar Hero.

Yes, as in the game. As in the plotless game best enjoyed – like many of Ratner’s movies – drunk.

Talking to MTV’s Multiplayer gaming blog, the director speculated ‘It could be about a kid from a small town who dreams of being a rock star and he wins the “Guitar Hero” competition.

‘One of these dreams-come-true kind of concepts.’

Not our dreams, matey. Sounds more like a nightmare.
