Pilgrim's progress for Edgar

Edgar Wright is working on a new project.

And it's not with Simon Pegg.

No, they haven't had a big falling out. They're just hugely popular in the US right now.

Edgar is steaming ahead with the big screen adaptation of  Bryan Lee O’Malley’s acclaimed comic book series, Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life.

This time, Edgar's lead is going to be Arrested Development and Superbad star Michael Cera.

O'Malley's comic book series follows Scott, a 23-year old trying to make his way in the big city... and defeat  the seven evil ex-boyfriends of his love Ramona Flowers. There might be six books in the series but Edgar is aware that he's unlikely to get a six-film saga out of them.

'The script that we've written essentially covers all six books,' he tells Wizard Universe.

'If it was at the level of Harry Potter we might be able to talk about doing six films but in this case our film is very much an adaptation of the entire six.'

While the match of Pilgrim and Wright seems perfect, Edgar also points out that it wasn't his idea.

'Scott Pilgrim is something that was sent to me when the first volume came out. I'm not gonna lie and say that I had read that book and said, "Oh, I have to make this film!" Somebody else read that book and said, "Edgar Wright should make this."

Happily, O'Malley agreed and the two have even worked together on the later books.

'I've been very keen to involve Bryan in every stage of this,' explains Wright, 'so that he feels happy and comfortable with what we've written... there are a couple of bits in the fourth and soon to be fifth book which are lines from our screenplay.

'I feel quite proud that there's a couple of bits in Scott Pilgrim volume 4 where I'm thinking, "That's my line!"'
