Is Claude Makelele a Girls Aloud fan? That would explain why the midfielder lunged at Ashley Cole in a practice game and left the England defender in doubt for the Champions League final in Moscow.

Cole was tended for 15 minutes by Chelsea staff after his teammate – mate! Hah! - went in with both feet during the knockabout.

However, even after the attention he was unable to continue and retired from the warm-up game with a bad swelling on his right ankle.

Ashley now faces a fitness test to see if he can play against Manchester United in what's probably the biggest game in English football history.

Manager Avram Grant loked miserable at the news. Or possibly happy. Or was possibly having any sort of physical reaction from constipation to orgasm.

It's just hard to tell with him.

It's worrying news as Cole has frequently proved to be the only left back in the game who can contain Cristiano Ronaldo who, we assume, is going to use tonigt's match to add a few million more to his price tag.

That wouldn't be good news for United fans but on the plus side it looks like Claude Makelele would rather be in a United shirt these days.
