Lewis Hamilton is angry.
It’s probably hard to tell, given the innocent little face and generally smiley demeanor, but his back is up.
Lewis is currently five points ahead of his McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso in the Drivers’ Championship, and 15 and 16 points ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikonen.
That though could all change if McLaren are kicked out of the championship for cheating.
Having already been found not guilty of using an illegally obtained, 780-page Ferrari dossier in a hearing in July, fresh evidence means the team have to fight again. They’ll appear before the World Motor Sport Council in Paris next Thursday.
‘Ferrari is confident that the truth will out,’ said the Italian team in an official statement. And that’s got Lewis riled.
‘Ferrari are looking the most innocent team ever,’ he declared to the Sun, ‘and I don’t think that’s the case. I know my team, I know the people here and I think we are being unfairly treated.
‘It would be a great feeling to beat them because of what they are putting us through.’
And the first chance to do that takes place this weekend at Monza in Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix.
‘We really want to beat them here,’ admitted Lewis. ‘That’s why we have been pushing so hard. Beating Ferrari on their home ground would be a huge blow to them – and that would make us extremely happy.’
