With all the inevitability of Christmas – or, indeed, an England cricket team snatching a draw from the jaws of victory (see below) – Manchester United have made a £20m bid for Dimitar Berbatov.
Sir Alex had expressed an interest in Tottenham's Bulgarian striker last year but Spurs weren't prepared to let him go and slapped a £30m price tag on him.
However, Berbatov then fell out of favour with Martin Jol, and now new Tottenham manager Juande Ramos isn't impressed with his attitude.
Because Barbatov plays like he'd rather be moping around a shopping centre on a skateboard.
The Bulgarian international wants Champions League football – he just clearly doesn't want the hassle of having to work to get it. Fergie can offer Champions League, £80K a week and the chance to play alongside Wayne Rooney.
And Tottenham need to raise some funds to cover Ramos's £50m spend, and their £11m bid for Luis Garcia.
So, on to the cricket. With England declaring on a mammoth 593, the South Africans were always likely to be chasing victory in the First Test. .
England then removed SA for 247, forcing the follow on. It was all looking so good... and then Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie settled in, racked up what's apparenlty the highest ever stand by a team following on, and thus South Africa go in to the final day on 242 for 1, looking likely to secure the draw.
New line-up. New season. New opportunities. Same old England...
