Wenger: Furious, or does he always look like that?

And so the football season draws to a close. We could speculate about whether it's going to be Chelsea or United but what's the point? Particularly when it's much more fun to take the mickey out of Arsene Wenger.

We've often mentioned the lack of English players in his first choice 11. Now it looks like he'll be struggling to find 11 players of any nationality. Real Madrid want Cesc Fabregas, Mathieu Flamini snubbed a new deal earlier this week and left for AC Milan... and now he's been followed to Italy by Alex Hleb.

Hleb had two years left on his contract but, following Arsenal's lack of success this year, he's leaving them behind, buying himself out of his contract – at a cost of £3m – and going to Inter.

Wenger is said to be furious that Inter publicly declared their interest in the player. But how can they tell? He always looks like that...

Inter seem to be in a buying mood. The club celebrates its centenary next year and want big names, which is why they've offered £25m for Steven Gerrard.

The Sun reports that Liverpool turned the deal down but an Inter spokesman revealed that they 'have drawn up a list of alternatives. But if Liverpool decide to sell, Gerrard is our top priority.'

They could always buy Peter Crouch, of course. He wants away from Anfield, but is fuming that Rafa Benitez has slapped a £15m price tag on his head.

He must have had a ladder then.

Benitez wants to keep Crouch for the last year of his contract and would rather lose him next summer on a free than see him join, say, Portsmouth for less than his transfer value.

Crouch is furious, claiming that Liverpool have reneged on a previous arrangement to let him leave this year. He'd now be throwing toys out of his pram. If you could find a pram long enough.
