Avram backs JT

Tezza: Shoe-in for Captain?
Terry John

Avram Grant has backed Chelsea captain John Terry to win and keep the England captain’s armband under Fabio Capello.

‘He’s having one of his best seasons at the club,’ said Grant.

‘England need John more than he needs England.

‘It’s not my decision on the captaincy, I’m not objective,' he added.

‘Steven Gerrard is one of my favourite players but I saw JT as a captain here.

‘He’s a great leader so they don’t need to change him.

‘If he’d played against Croatia, England would be at Euro 2008.’

Yes Avram, but we’ve kind of got used to the idea of England not being at Euro 2008 and not having to go through the heartache of watching England crash out on penalties again.

Another player who needs a bit of love is Emmanuel Adebayor who bizarrely can attribute his poor recent form to his new haircut, reports the Sun.

Adebayor ditched the braided look as it was too high maintenance and since taking to the field sporting a sensible crop, his form has been in freefall.

‘They were getting on my nerves. I could only wash them once every three weeks,’ the striker told pals.

Meanwhile at the Emirates, Alexander Hleb has incurred the wrath of Arsene Wenger after conducting a secret meeting with Inter Milan ahead of their Champions League clash with AC Milan, reports the Mirror.

Power agent and serial Inter transfer broker Vicenzo Morabito has denied Hleb met with the Italian giants but simply went for an ‘ice-cream’ with one of his associates – read into that what you will.

At the tough end of the league, Roy Keane is looking to bolster Sunderland’s strike force should the avoid relegation by signing former Manchester United team-mate Diego Forlan, reports the Daily Star.

Keane has filled his squad with former United players/rejects and Forlan has unfinished business in the Premier League after his uninspiring spell at Old Trafford.

The Uruguayan has proved his worth in La Liga where he is among the most feared strikers in Spain.
