Grant: Pressure piling on

The Sun report that Chelsea’s Frank Arnesen is ‘the man at the centre of the war that is threatening to rip Chelsea apart.’

Arnesen is Chief Scout and in charge of youth development at the club, is believed to want to bring Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard to Stamford Bridge.

Rijkaard could be looking at his P45 in the summer as Barca trail bitter rivals Real Madrid in La Liga and club elections are due to take place for a new president.

‘There is a lot going on at the moment and it is getting like the Mourinho situation,’ said a Chelsea insider to a salivating Sun hack.

‘Grant still has the support of his bosses but Arnesen’s relationship with Rijkaard is causing a lot of unrest.’

MegaStar reported yesterday that the pressure is piling upon Grant as boss Roman Abramovich unveiled lavish plans in anticipation of celebrating a Champions League victory in Moscow.

But Chelsea still have got a little way to go before they displace Liverpool as the Premier League’s crisis club.

The club’s American owner Tom Hicks is on the verge of a sole takeover after revealing he has the power to veto his partner George Gillet Jr from selling his stake. Furthermore, he will look to persuade his associate to sell him the share.

Not only am I not going to sell, my partner cannot sell without my approval,’ said Hicks.

‘So, I kind of have the ability to determine the outcome of what is going to happen, and I am right in the middle of that.’

The news could possibly mean further unrest - especially on the terraces where a large contingent of Liverpool fans do not trust the Americans and are looking toward the financial behemoth Dubai Investment Capital (DIC) to takeover the club and ensure a solid cash footing.
