Chelsea sent out a warning message to their Champions League rivals last night with a 4-0 demolition of Bordeaux.
However, boss ‘Big Phil’ Scolari still wasn’t happy.
‘We made many mistakes in the second half,’ he declared. ‘When you play very well and win it’s better — but today we didn’t play very well at all. We tried to attack every time without good connections.’
Apart from the four times you scored, Phil. Surely that counts for something?
Er… apparently not.
‘When you play in the Champions League and you’re 2-0 up at half-time you have to work harder,’ he ranted. ‘You need to control the game more and we didn’t control it very well in the second half.
‘I don’t want three, four or five nil — 2-0 is the same three points. We need to be in control of the game.’
Bet he won’t be saying that if qualification comes down to goal difference.
Frank Lampard scored the 18th goal of his European career to equal Didier Drogba’s record. He was joined on the score sheet by Joe Cole, Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka.
Oh, back to Big Phil then.
‘Bordeaux only had two shots but they had more time with the ball than us and we won the game. But we have enough experience to know this.
‘We could have been caught. We received one booking because we lost many balls in the middle. Other teams, arriving in front of goal quicker, might have hurt us.’
But the point is Phil… they didn’t. You won 4-0. And our heart goes out to Mrs Scolari.
