‘I knew it wouldn’t take long for them to come.’
That was Dimitar Berbatov’s slightly smug reaction to his first goals for Manchester United.
The Bulgarian’s brace sealed a 3-0 victory over Danish hopefuls Aalborg, although it should have been three as he also missed a sitter in the first half.
‘I wasn’t worried, I knew the goals would come sooner rather than later,’ said Berbatov. ‘I’m pleased they came here but it was more important for the team to win.’
It was a mixed night for the Champions League title holders though. Paul Scholes was taken off in the first half with suspected knee ligament damage, and then Wayne Rooney hobbled off before the end with an ankle injury.
Meanwhile, over at the Emirates, Arsenal put Saturday’s shock home defeat against Hull behind them to demolish Porto 4-0.
Two goals apiece for Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor saw off the much-fancied Portuguese side although it cold have been different had Porto taken their early chances.
However they then let Arsenal back into the game and the Gunners took full advantage. Indeed, it could have been a 9-0 drubbing if they’d taken their chances.
But we’re confused. Does this result mean that Hull are also better than Porto?
