Dog's life for Lawrence

Lawrence: Sheer bad luck?
Liam Lawrence

Stoke’s Liam Lawrence is a major doubt for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Portsmouth after tripping over his pet dog and injuring his ankle.

Yes, you heard that correctly. He was tackled by his pet pooch, don’t laugh and had to have an x-ray to assess the damage.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis was taking the news seriously, a setback after their mesmeric 2-1 defeat over Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.

‘Liam's gone over on his ankle stepping over the dog, said Tony.

‘Nothing's broken but he's not been able to train, it's disappointing.’

Disappointing indeed, but Lawrence is not the first pro to fall foul of freak injury. MegaStar looks back at some of the stranger injuries to hamper our overpaid fragile prima donnas.

Ex Wimbledon goalie and FA Cup final hero Dave Beasant dropped a bottle of salad cream on his foot. Salad Cream, not mayonnaise.

Rio Ferdinand Picked up a tendon strain watching TV, probably not an ITV2 re-run of Rio’s World Cup Windups.

Hapless former Gunner Richard Wright sustained a shoulder injury falling through his loft, he later topped that by tripping over a ‘keep off the grass’ sign at Stamford Bridge.

Spanish keeper Santiago Canizares dropped a bottle of aftershave and severed a tendon. Just sheer bad luck.

Alan Mullery injured his back cleaning his teeth, how did he manage that?

Reading striker Leroy Lita damaged a leg muscle as he stretched in bed after waking up.

And finally….Darren Barnard slipped in a puddle of his dog's wee.

You couldn’t make it up.
