The FA have told Fabio Capello that if he doesn't get England to the World Cup semi-final he's out of a job.
And that's not all. He's then got to get England to the last four of the European Championships in 2012. Or he's out of a job.
It might sound like someone at the FA has finally found some balls but, of course, in the meantime, they'll keep paying Fabio £6m.
And surely taking a team that features some of the world's best players to the latter stages of a competition is kind of his entire job description?
Regardless, it's encouraging that the FA have decided to get tough with the England manager following the disaster of Steve McClaren's reign.
What's not so encouraging is the fact that they've not demanded victories in either competition.
When Sven got the job seven years ago, his instruction was to win the 2006 World Cup.
Still, maybe this is a more realistic target, as the FA's director of football development Trevor Brooking explained. 'The harsh fact is we haven’t won anything for 42 years,' said Brooking.
'In 10 years we want a situation where you can see we are definitely in with a chance and that you can see the depth of a squad emerging.
'At the moment if you get injuries in key positions it is tough for whoever is the senior coach.
'We should have greater depth in a 55 million population but if we don’t have a strategy we might as well all abandon ship.'
Better news is that the national football centre is coming back... in two years time. That's more like it. That's the FA we know and hate.
