We would never have put Fabio Capello on the same coaching planet as Steve Duckhead McClaren or even Sven Dead-Eyes Goran Eriksson.
But last night’s rubbish performance in the friendly against a decent Czech Republic side could have easily been from one of Sven’s lost days or a vintage night in McClaren’s reign of insignificance.
There they all were; Lampard, Beckham and Gerrard, underperforming in the same positions they have underperformed in for years.
There was no width, style or guidance. Passion was confined to running headlong at the opposition.
Beckham’s running in particular was limited and surely now his time as an international is over.
A Capello side could be expected to retain possession, show patience and sit deep when not with the ball. And despite scraping a 2-2 draw on the night, England did everything in their power to try and loss the game against a side capable of hurting any team on the break.
Hardly surprising the Sun has labelled the team a bunch of ‘wasters’.
The Czechs should have beaten England easily.
Capello’s five game tenure of England has been given a yellow card. One more like that son, and you’re off.
