Next to Ronaldo's flirtation with Real Madrid, Frank Lampard's dalliance with Jose over at Inter kept news-hungry hacks busy over the summer.

And after all the babble of bella Italia, Lamps has signed a five year mega-deal worth a reported £39.2m to stay with Chelsea.

The Blues apparently broke the bank to allow Frank to finish his career at Stamford Bridge and it equates to a staggering £151,000-a-week deal.

Very handsome indeed, especially for a 30 year old and it goes to show that Chelsea may not be as vibrant in the transfer market but they are still willing to smash the ceiling on pay on a regular basis. And not even their baldy chairman Peter Kenyon can stop it.

He vowed earlier in the week that Chelsea would not budge from a four-year deal. Previously, the club suggested there was no more money on offer.

But that’s before the agents got to work and the soft cash underbelly of Abramovich’s financial willpower was tested.

Lampard said: 'We can both gain from this deal. I am determined to win the title again and hopefully the Champions League.’ And after trousering nearly £40m, we would expect him to be a little more positive than ‘hopefully’ winning the Champions League.

Meanwhile the £25m transfer of Real Madrid’s Robinho is still on the cards with Chelsea deep in talks with his representatives.
