Ince: Pre-season blues

Paul Ince - welcome to life as a Premier League boss.

The freshly appointed Blackburn boss has hopped aboard the pre-season transfer speculation merry-go-round with gusto and his first job has been to field tricky questions about a flighty winger.

David Bentley has been courted by Spurs for a while now and it seems that Aston Villa have tabled a bid to sign the right midfielder who is looking to succeed David Beckham at international level.

‘We have had an offer from Aston Villa, but I do not want him to go,’ said Ince.

‘He is injured and he will have a couple of days off and I hope to take him to Germany on Wednesday for our training trip.’

Well it looks like you might not have much of a say Paul, it seems that the manager these days is well down the pecking order behind the player, agent, WAG, whoever.

Villa too are pretty active, resigned to losing their leader Gareth Barry, there will be money in the kitty for a big signing such as Bentley.

In what could be a further blow to Ince, rock-solid keeper Brad Friedel has been rumoured to be switching to Villa Park, leaving the door open for Rovers to nab Tottenham’s unsettled Paul Robinson.

‘When I came to Blackburn, I said I wanted to keep my best players, and Brad Friedel comes into that category,’ said Ince.

‘He is one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

‘There is no interest from me in Paul Robinson. As far as I am concerned, I want to keep Brad. I do not want to sell Brad, so why should I want Paul Robinson?’

There’s no smoke without fire Paul. Let’s see if Friedel and Bentley are Rovers players when the season kicks off in August.

The Guv’nor better start laying down the law.
