Henry tug of war

Henry: Back in Premier League colours?
Henry Thierry

Thierry Henry may have made only a fleeting appearance in the Champions League semi-final clash between Manchester United and Barcelona on Wednesday and his brief performance has started tongues wagging in the Premier League.

Henry who sat most of the match out after struggling with a fever is apparently a target for Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle who are planning on tabling a £15m bid for the French international in the summer.

According to The Sun, Keegan has squared the mammoth layout with owner Mike Ashley and sees Henry as the perfect partner for the in-form Michael Owen.

Henry has yet to fire on all cylinders for the Catalan giants and the return leg on Tuesday could be his last chance this season to endear himself to the Barca faithful.

Henry attempted to quell the transfer speculation and told the BBC that he is happy at Barca. The bad news for Kev and Mike Ashley is that he doesn’t seem too keen on any club besides his former one.

‘I'm happy - I don't regret leaving Arsenal,’ said Henry.

‘But there's only one team in England for me. Everybody knows the love and affection I have for Arsenal. I was so into it, I became a fan.’

The tide could turn for Henry; he has taken a battering from the Catalan press after some lacklustre performances and needs a big performance against United.

There have always been questions over Thierry’s temperament; would the Gunners welcome him back with open arms?

Thierry just needs to be loved – the Geordies would take to him like a certain brown ale.
