Heskey Kops it

What a turn around for the big man. In danger of national treasure status
heskey emile

What a difference four years make. Emile Heskey could be back on his way to Liverpool.

The player-formerly-known-as-Carthorse (well, certainly around this office) spent four years at Anfield and is out of contract with Wigan at the end of the season.

And, after a handful of impressive performances for England, his stock has raised.

Emile himself has expressed an interest in Champions League football – something he’s unlikely to get with Wigan.

And Rafa Benitez, who, let’s face it, likes splashing the cash, may even step in with a £3m bid in January, as he needs cover for Fernando Torres.

And apparently that’s Heskey rather than someone who can, ooh, we don’t know, run?

‘I hope there will be a few managers taking notice of me,’ said Heskey.

‘Everyone wants to be playing on the big stages — for their country and for their club in the Champions League.

‘But I’m still a Wigan player and want to do my best for them,’ he added.

Until a better offer / bigger team comes along, eh Emile?

Remarkably, Heskey’s return to Liverpool isn’t the most surprising football story of the day.

That honour goes to Didier Drogba’s revelation that he’d be happy to end his career at Chelsea. Yes, that Drogba.

The one who wanted away in the summer to go to Inter Milan.

But things have changed. ‘I am glad I stayed,’ revealed Didier.

‘Last year I said I wanted to leave and every season I have said I have wanted to leave.

‘But I am still here and this is the club which suits me best.

‘This is the only club where I won all the titles I have now. I am happy to be here and to stay with my friends.’

And, indeed, to count the money.
