Kevin Keegan has walked from Newcastle.
Only he hasn’t.
In that case, Keegan has been sacked from Newcastle.
Only he wasn’t.
Despite loads of rumours yesterday, Kevin Keegan is still with the club - although it’s clear that St James’ Park isn’t the happiest place to work at the moment.
Toon owner Mike Ashley has managed to make himself public enemy number one on Tyneside with his apparent attempts to oust his popular manager.
Recently Keegan has allegedly been denied funds to buy players, had to sit back and watch star winger James Milner go to Aston Villa and, according to the Sun, learned that Ashley had attempted to sell Michael Owen and midfield charmer Joey Barton without Keegan’s approval.
Rumours are flying that they want to oust Keegan and bring in Gus Poyet, the Spurs assistant manager, as boss – alongside his former Chelsea team mate now Newcastle executive director Dennis Wise.
Keegan does at least have the support of the Toon Army who are threatening to ‘strike’ and stay away from the Newcastle v Hull game on September 13.
More on this, inevitably, in days to come…
