Come and get me United. That's the plea from out-of-sorts Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov to Alex Ferguson.
And judging by Manchester United's performance yesterday, they'll be on the blower this morning trying to get their long-targeted striker. Because boy do they need one.
Newcastle were the Old Trafford visitors yesterday afternoon, and they held the reigning champs to a pretty dull 1-1 draw. United certainly carved out a few chances, but they were either denied by the excellent Shay Given or squandered by players who, apparently, couldn't score in a brothel.
Which is always ironic, eh, Wayne?
Tottenham, whose early season promised so much, were undone by Gareth Southgate's Middlesbrough side.
Mind you, in that sort of form, Middlesbrough are probably a match for anyone this season.
Well, certainly Arsenal – who scraped a 1-0 win over West Brom, the stuttering United and Liverpool who made heavy weather of their 1-0 win at Sunderland – but possibly not Chelsea who looked scarily efficient AND entertaining as they ripped Portsmouth apart 4-0.
And Deco? That 'past it' player they signed this summer? He put on a man-of-the-match display and finished the day with an early contender for goal of the season.
With United still sticking at a £25m bid and Spurs insisting on £30m, the Berbatov saga has a few days to run, we reckon. And Sir Alex, what about an offer for Gabriel Agbonlahor instead?
The young Villa forward scored a hat-trick yesterday and knocked a couple more months off Mark Hughes career as Manchester City boss...
Finally, a hearty pat on the back to Hull, who signalled their arrival in the Premiership with a 2-1 over Fulham.
Happy days. Undoubtedly short lived but still happy days...
