Andy Murray claimed a place in the semi-finals of the Masters Cup with a 6-4 6-2 victory over tenacious Frenchman Gilles Simon Wednesday.
The 21-year-old world number four had to fend off a mid-match fightback from Simon to join Serb Novak Djokovic in the last four on his debut at the $4.45 million (2.91 million poun) season finale.
Simon won his place at the event when injured world number one Rafael Nadal pulled out and he beat Roger Federer in his first match Monday.
Murray beat American Andy Roddick in his opener. Roddick earlier withdrew from the event because of an injured ankle and Czech alternate Radek Stepanek will take on Swiss Federer in Wednesday's second Red Group match.
