With Michael Vaughan stepping down as England's Test captain – and rapidly followed by One Day captain Paul Collingwood – we were expecting a quick announcement about replacements.
We just weren't expecting this announcement.
England's new Test captain is Keven Pietersen.
And England's new One Day International captain is... Kevin Pietersen.
Pietersen has revealed that he wants his team to play like he plays. Which should mean they either declare on 1000 runs or get skittled out for 30. So not much change there then.
'I want the team to play similarly to the way I play my game,' said KP, 'although you have to be accountable for the things you do and be responsible for the decisions you make
'The way I play is by gut instinct. I like to do things spontaneously.'
As Andrew Flintoff told the Sun though, however Pietersen does it, he's got big boots to fill. Vaughan left with a record of 26 Test wins – including that Ashes victory – but Freddie thinks KP is up to the task.
'The lad who’s coming in will believe he can fill those boots — he’s a very confident guy and an unbelievable cricketer.
'The qualities that make him the player he is are the same ones he will take into his captaincy.
'He will believe he can be the best captain ever - he’s that kind of bloke. Things are about to get very exciting.'
And at least he's changed his hairstyle since that peroxide badger thing.
