Liverpool join the gamut of European clubs with their peepers on Euro 2008 star David Villa.
Villa bagged four goals in Spain’s victorious Euro 2008 campaign but disappointingly missed the final through injury.
Rafael Benitez knows all about Villa and with some cash in the bank after offloading Peter Crouch to Portsmouth for a cool £11 million the Spaniard is looking to bolster his strike force further.
‘We have Torres, Voronin, Kuyt, Babel and Steven Gerrard, who can play as a second striker," Benitez said.
‘But we will try to bring in another option.
‘Villa we know all about. He is on our list. But maybe it will be difficult.’
A partnership with fellow Spanish international Fernando Torres is a mouth watering prospect for Liverpool fans.
Villa impressed at the Euros and if a move to the Kop does become a reality he can expect adulation from the Kop.
However if the goals dry up he could be consigned to Rafa’s graveyard of strikers quicker than you can say ‘Where eez this Pompey’
