Terry tells it like it is - from the Chelsea view, anyway

John Terry isn’t someone to mess with but for giving us a clue as to the destination of the 07/08 Premier League title and Champions League trophy, perhaps he’s not the best unbiased opinion in football.

After all, he’s renowned for his brawn, bulldog spirit and never-say-die attitude, right?

In an attempt to crank up the psychological pressure against double winners Man United ahead of the season’s openers on Saturday, the man they call JT reckons Sir Alex and his team just aren’t up to much.

‘I don't think United have another level to go to,’ said Terry.

‘They had a lot of players at the peak of their form for the last two years. Rio Ferdinand has been awesome for the last two years and Cristiano Ronaldo was unbelievable - I don't think you'll see that again,’ he added.

So he concludes the only way for the champions is down.

But that would assume the aging, over-paid stars of the Blues have another level to go.

Well, they need to raise themselves to the next level and win something this year, for starters. But performance levels?

A disjointed Drogba, and in and out Joe Cole or a hit and miss Michael Ballack are not the best examples of players on the brink of a great season.

He added, ‘Rooney, Tevez, Giggs at his age, they've all been fantastic. I think we can close the gap because Man United we’re at the very top of their game last season. But we've been very close to them and we had injuries and a change of manager.’

But there’s no guarantee injuries and a change of manager are not heading Chelsea’s way again this season.

Sir Alex is at safe and no, he’s not shaking in his boots. 1-0 United.
